Powder coating is a technique in which a dry powder paint (often polyester) is applied electrostatically to the aluminium profile, after which the profile is heated so that the powder particles melt and form a durable and protective coating.
Process description
The object is first thoroughly cleaned and, if necessary, chemically pre-treated to ensure good adhesion and corrosion protection. Powder paint is electrostatically charged and applied to the earthed surface using an automatic spray gun, causing the powder particles to adhere to the aluminium profile. The object is then placed in an oven, where the powder coating melts, becomes viscous and hardens into a solid protective layer (this is called baking).
Properties
The result is an attractive, smooth and wear-resistant coating that protects the underlying aluminium against corrosion and weather influences.
Powder coating can be applied in virtually any desired colour and in various degrees of gloss. Metallic or textured finishes are also popular choices.
