If future generations are to be able to continue talking about our “green planet Earth”, we must do everything we can to minimise the use of fossil fuels. Not only are these fuels running out, they also cause high CO2 emissions. This CO2 is harmful to the environment. Why? CO2 is the best known and most abundant greenhouse gas.
Greenhouse gases trap the Earth’s heat, causing the Earth to warm up. Global warming is already causing ice to melt at the North and South Poles. Water levels will rise, climates will change and the weather will become more extreme. These are all consequences of CO2 emissions. That is why CO2 reduction is so important. The extent to which a process emits this CO2 greenhouse gas is called the CO2 footprint. The smaller this footprint, the better.
