A Conversation with Rob Schalken

At Core-Vision, you can count on a personal approach. We enjoy showcasing the people behind the company because, ultimately, they are the ones doing the work.

To start, we’re speaking with Rob Schalken, the Managing Director at Core-Vision. Below, he talks about his career path, the unique culture at Core-Vision, and his vision for the future. Finally, he warmly invites you to have an informal chat about a potential collaboration.

Could you introduce yourself?

“Of course! I’m 45 years old, and together with my partner and our two sons, I enjoy family life. I like to spend my free time mountain biking or playing tennis, but I also enjoy standing on the sidelines as a football coach/trainer for my youngest son.

I’ve been in this field since I was 21, after completing my education in electronics and IT. Initially, I wanted to become a sound technician because I played in a band and was fascinated by everything to do with music, mixing consoles, and synthesizers. In the end, I chose a different direction within technology.”

How did you end up at Core-Vision?

“After a few detours, I found myself in the world of embedded systems, where I worked for both large and small companies on hardware, software, and FPGA implementations in product and project development.

In 2007, I joined Core-Vision as an FPGA developer and grew into roles such as hands-on project leader and project manager. In 2021, I had the opportunity to take on the role of Managing Director, and I grabbed it with both hands.”

Which project are you most proud of?

“We’ve worked on so many great projects; it’s hard to pick just one. What makes me especially proud is how we serve our clients. We might be a bit too modest, but we deliver quality. That’s reflected in the long-term relationships we’ve built with our customers.

Technology is the driving force of our company. We work with a small team of highly skilled specialists who are passionate about technology and innovation. We combine hardware, software, and FPGA implementations to create smart, high-end solutions, resulting in an impressive variety of projects.

What do you think is unique about the company?

“Personally, I really enjoy the atmosphere at Core-Vision. We have an informal, transparent culture and short lines of communication. Everyone accepts each other as they are. This creates a positive work environment and allows us to work efficiently. Our employees continually develop their skills by attending webinars and training, ensuring they remain among the best in their field.

Additionally, we’re happy to share our knowledge. We provide training and collaborate with various educational institutions by contributing to teaching materials and supervising graduates and interns.”

What does the future hold for Core-Vision?

“We’re focusing on applications related to safety and sustainability across different segments, while also exploring the possibilities of AI. We always aim to stay ahead in technology because, in our world, standing still means falling behind.

I also believe in the power of a compact team. This keeps communication lines short and allows us to adapt flexibly to changes. With a team of no more than 25 people, we can maintain our informal atmosphere and efficient way of working.”

Always open to new ideas

“I enjoy meeting new people and brainstorming ideas.
As the contact person for sales, I’m happy to give a tour of our company. It offers a great insight into who we are and how we work. Therefore, I invite anyone interested to have an informal chat. Does that sound good to you?”
